Everything single thing you require to achieve any end you desire came already built-in at your creation, only awaiting activation by your own sincere acts of (as Jesus said) asking, seeking and knocking.
Jesus often instructed us to observe the instinctive behavior of children as an example of this process, but when we seek beyond basic survival need, conscious actions and understanding are required, though the mechanism for achieving our ends remains basically the same.
While Jesus explains that we are not immune from suffering, our pains must not dictate our behavior.
He also promises our suffering is a precursor to joy as in John 16
Our experience has been that this promise is always true in exact measure to it's exercise – the return generally far exceeding the expectation.
What it means to “ask in prayer” and to “believe” and to “ask in my name” are critical topics that deserve treatment of their own, but the key to understanding is still in the principle that behavior is a true indicator of belief while prayer at the very least includes the sincere and honest introspection coupled with an equally honest exploration and assessment of the quality and depth of our interest.
Asking in Jesus name cannot mean to invoke the name Jesus like some magic token, but must mean to ask according to how he taught which again has to do with our belief in his words and our demonstration of that by our behavior and not a ritual magical invocation. We certainly cannot expect to force the hand of the creator of all the universe (and beyond) to our will by the invocation of the name Jesus.
The creature simply does not dictate to the creator – which by the way is also a good lesson we need to teach our government.
Perhaps it actually is most often our stronger belief in the impropriety our individual wantings that excludes them from realization and if we would just want the things we feel justified to receive, they would flow to us as simply as the sun, wind and rain.
Further, if we would focus on a Just life, making service to others our greatest service to ourselves - our perceptions of personal needs and materialism in general will go through revolutionary revaluing and reduction.
One scripture that has influenced me tremendously over the years tells that the particles of intelligent matter that compose all the universe flow toward God of their own accord, without compulsion.
The more justly we learn to think, feel and live our lives, the more we should expect our needs and wants to be delivered to us just as and when they are required.
Conversely, when we squander or hoard our talents and gifts, we create an undeniable self-awareness of a less than worthy seeker of additional gifts, blessings, etc. from God - and so we don't receive those things, simply because our receipt is tempered to our degree of belief.
To the degree then, that you believe in; 1) the promise that you can receive, 2) your personal worthiness to receive - you do or don't get what you want in life - but like the song says - "you get what you need"!
If you are not getting what you want in life, you need to design a better quality of YOU to put your belief in, to be someone who has an honest and just relationship with themselves, others and that power which created the individual that you are.
Do you believe in the potency of God's creation?
The creation that you are?
What did God make you to be?
What are you doing to be that best?

Matthew 7
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
And in Matthew 21
22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
While Jesus explains that we are not immune from suffering, our pains must not dictate our behavior.
Matthew 5
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? ...
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others]?...
He also promises our suffering is a precursor to joy as in John 16
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.If this promise of Jesus cannot be depended on – then all faith in him is a lost cause.
And again makes this bold promise
23 ...Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you.
Our experience has been that this promise is always true in exact measure to it's exercise – the return generally far exceeding the expectation.
